The importance of the circular economy and how it can enhance your SME with Catherine Weetman

We are delighted to announce that author and expert of the circular economy, Catherine Weetman, will be sharing her knowledge at not only one, but two circular economy workshops this summer. The events are being held in June and July in Derby.

Circular economy emerges as an alternative to the traditional linear economy (make, use and dispose), in which the resources are optimised and the businesses can obtain the maximum value from them. The circular economy approach promotes re-thinking product/ service design, material choice and business models to reduce waste while increasing customer engagement. Businesses of all sizes, in every sector, worldwide are using circular economy to obtain competitive edge and to create a more sustainable business model.

In this perspective, Catherine helps organisations in the UK develop future-fit, resilient and sustainable strategies. Catherine’s background includes industrial engineering in manufacturing and retail distribution, logistics solution design, project management, business intelligence, logistics product development and supply chain consulting. As well as being the Vice-Chair of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation and of its Environment and Sustainability Forum. She has in-depth knowledge of circular economy principles and has built an extensive database of real examples (currently over 500) of organisations developing circular products, materials, and services, in every industry sector, across the world. Catherine has worked with leading organisations such as Tesco Distribution, Kellogg Company, and DHL Supply Chain and has won numerous awards including the British Clothing Industries Association Business Fellowship Award, and the Director’s Prize for Outstanding Achievement at Cranfield Centre for Logistics and Transportation. Her previous work includes her successful book, ‘A Circular Economy Handbook for Business and Supply Chains’ and she is the founder of ‘Re-think Solutions to Make Sense of Sustainability’.

In the workshops Catherine will be sharing her specialist knowledge and will be providing clarity about how your business can implement the thinking behind the approach. You can find more about the Circular Economy in her book: http://www.re-think.me.uk/resources/
