6th – 8th October, 9:00 – 12:00 each day
Virtual event – one full day of content over three short mornings
80% of Derbyshire homes need to be deep retrofitted to reach net zero carbon targets by 2050.
Conference Aim
To respond to the climate emergency and create a net-zero Derbyshire by 2050, we need to radically shift the energy efficiency of our homes. Domestic buildings in Derbyshire are responsible for 27% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the county and 9,000 homes need ‘deep retrofitting’ every year for the next three decades. That’s 179 homes per week for the next 30 years, so the time for action is now!
The University of Derby is collaborating with Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Derby, and South Derbyshire Councils to host an online housing retrofit conference 6-8th October. This conference aims to build better understanding of the challenge, our responsibilities for action and create a platform for genuine collaboration that will support citizens, construction firms, architects, planners, housing associations, educators and public servants to ensure Derbyshire is a thriving, healthy and sustainable place to live in the second half of this century.
What can we expect?
The event provides a great opportunity to hear more about best practice in housing energy efficiency retrofit from around the country, focusing on strategies, ambition, co-benefits, technology, funding, installers, skills and training, and community engagement.
Places are limited but free to local housing associations, developers, suppliers, installers, house builders, community organisations in the D2N2 region, University staff and officers from LAEP councils.
The event will be hosted by Low Carbon Homes, an organisation dedicated to promoting and facilitating retrofit of the UK’s housing stock. Low Carbon Homes is
“a nationwide market-led membership platform for professionals and suppliers to learn, share and showcase best-practice. We aim to unpack the complexities of retrofit-at-scale, reduce confusion and promote action. www.lowcarbonhomes.uk/”
Similar events have been run by Manchester City and Birmingham City Councils. The content is right up to date, relevant, interesting and often eye opening.
The Derbyshire event will be tailored to local needs and comprise a combination of local and national good practice. As well as hearing from national retrofit experts, sessions will be offered by third sector organisations, working with communities and local installers, with the aim of building trust, interest and commitment from householders to have their homes improved. The event will run over three mornings 9-12pm – including time for networking.
